The Greensboro economy and the surrounding Piedmont Triad area traditionally have been centered around textiles, tobacco, and furniture. Greensboro‘s central proximity in the state has made it a popular place for families and businesses, as well as becoming more of a logistics hub, with FedEx having regional operations based in the city.[48]

Notable companies headquartered in Greensboro include the Honda Aircraft Company, HAECO Americas, ITG Brands, Kayser-Roth, VF, Mack Trucks, Volvo Trucks of North America, Qorvo, the International Textile Group, NewBridge Bank, The Fresh Market, Cook Out, Ham’s, Biscuitville, Fusion3, TIMCO, Tripps, Wrangler, and Columbia Forest Products. Greensboro is a “center of operations” for the insurance company Lincoln Financial Group.[49] Greensboro is also headquarters to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Greensboro City leaders have been working to attract new businesses in the nanotech, high-tech, aviation and transportation/logistics sectors. The University of North Carolina at Greensboroand North Carolina A&T State University opened a joint research park, Gateway University Research Park.

Greensboro is located in the central region of the state and was awarded with the title “All-American City” four times since 1962. The city of High Point, which is nearby, shares a regional airport with Greensboro. Major highways including interstates 40 and 85 pass through the center of Greensboro connecting it with many other cities in North Carolina as well as neighboring states South Carolina and Virginia. The Greensboro-High Point area has seen significant growth in the past decade adding an additional $200 million to the economy each year through spending on new homes new businesses and other projects. The relationship between planning groups, local leaders and citizens has helped guide this area into becoming one of the most desirable locations to live in North Carolina.
